Should "Pop Metal" be considered Metal?

To  listeners of metal, bands like Slayer and Megadeth are considered traditionaland to be the traditional metal style. In recent years, the metal genre has been expanded through thrash metal, metalcore, death metal, black metal, etc. But there is a new brand of metal that crosses the barrier of the hardcore genre into the softer side of pop rock.
Pop metal, as some refer to it, is a part of the new era of the metal genre. This new sound is made to appeal to a larger portion of the rock-listener population. The clean clean choruses, mixed with heavy guitar and machine gun double kicks is an acquired taste. Some like them, and some despise them. Check out these bands and decide for yourself.

  1. I wouldn't really consider most these songs to be pop metal except for maybe Seether... Yeah, they're definitely pop. The others are a little bit more complex though I could see how the clean chorus parts might seem pretty pop-like. Lot's of people refer to the hair bands of the 80's like Motley Crue and Quiet Riot as Pop Metal (otherwise known as Glam Metal).
Maybe it should be called pop-metalcore. A good blanket term for all the rather derivative pop/punk/metal of today.
